The NJ REC is a stakeholder-based program to support and
recognize excellence in training, superior skills and performance, and to
nurture and enhance the professionalism of the NJ private vehicle inspection,
repair and maintenance community
Founded in 1998, the NJ Repair Excellence Council (NJ REC) is a not for profit organization created as a forum to allow representatives from the private vehicle inspection, repair and maintenance communities to interact directly with the State on vehicle testing and repair issues.
Since the REC's establishment coincided with the planning and implementation phases of the State's enhanced vehicle inspection and maintenance (I/M) program for gasoline-fueled motor vehicles, a good deal of our time is spent dealing with inspection-related issues on behalf of the private inspection facility (PIF) community. As such, we have a close working relationship with the following government agencies.
New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP)
New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles (NJDMV)
New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT)
By design, one the REC’s goals are to support and educate technicians who work in both Private Inspection Facilities (PIF) as well as Emission Repair Facilities (ERF). It is designed to open the line of communications between the Auto Repair Industry, and Government Agencies.
The NJ REC council is supported by all of the major Automotive Trade Associations in New Jersey, including:
Mechanic’s Education Association (MEA)
Professional Automotive Technician Association (PATA)
Alliance of Automotive Service Professionals (AASP)
NJ Coalition of Automotive Retailer (NJ CAR)
NJ Gasoline Retailers Association
Private Inspection Facility Group
This website is designed to give easy access to the latest changes in the NJ Inspection and Maintenance program, as well current events, tools and information that affect working automotive technicians in NJ today.
